Sports Performace Therapy
When Your Performance Comes First
Sports Performance Therapy
At the Body Sage Clinic in Bedford, we take your sports performance as seriously as you. Our Sports Performance sessions are designed with the health goals of athletes and the very active in mind. Whether you’re running your first 5K for charity or a professional footballer, we’ve spent over a decade developing our treatment strategies to suit just about anyone.
We’ve created two variations of Sports Performance Therapy for what we think are the two main reasons a very active person or athlete would need therapy for reasons other than injury. With many happy athletes, weekend road-warrior cyclists, runners, and gym-nuts as regular customers, we’ve hit the nail on the head with our niche and targeted approach to making you better at doing what you love.
What is Sports Performance Therapy?
The first variation is the Pre & Post-Competition Massage. It is aimed squarely at performance and recovery by utilising light to medium-pressure massage techniques in the days before and after an athletic competition when boosting circulation to tired muscles is of the highest importance. Massage therapy before and after athletic competitions has long been a mainstay version of sports massage for this very reason.
The second is called Sports Performance Therapy, and it focuses on enhancing your physical performance through the use of sports massage, stretching, and myofascial cupping. Maybe your bench press just isn’t doing as well as you’d like because you have a stiff shoulder. Or perhaps you get a sore lower back while halfway through your run. It’s a great choice for dealing with those minor niggles that do such a wonderful job of hampering your hard-fought progress.

Still have questions? Call us for a quick chat.
What's the difference between a sports performance therapy and a good old sports massage?
Sports Massage is an umbrella term that is now used to describe many different therapy techniques. Because of how it has evolved the term lacks any real specificity, so we wanted to call it something that fits better with its intended use and to help choosing what you need easier.
Will this really improve my sports performance?
Yes. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a professional athlete who doesn’t use sports massage in some fashion. Pre and post-competition massages are extremely common among athletes.
Can't you just call it a Sports Massage and be done with it?
We’ve never been much interested in doing the same as everyone else.
Why are the pre and post-competition light to medium pressure?
In the days before an event, being fully recovered is extremely important for you to perform at your best. Having a deep-tissue massage too close to your day of competition might affect how recovered your muscles are, which might affect your performance. After an event, a deep-tissue sports massage is about boosting circulation to your muscles to reduce D.O.M.S (delayed onset muscle soreness) and speed your recovery. Also, a deep-tissue massage on sore muscles is extremely unpleasant.
